The have my article up and running about the Vigilantes over at Roads to the Great War. This was a lot of fun to write. For those who may not know, though I don’t mention it in the article Hermann Hagedorn was the leader of the Roosevelt Memorial Association from the early 1920s until the late 1950s.
Fascinating article on the Vigilantes. Few today know of the prominent American writers who joined the group, authors such as Vachel Lindsay, Edwin Arlington Robinson, Ring,Lardner, Edgar Lee Masters, and Amy Lowell (both Masters and Lowell, along with Alice Corbin Henderson, withdrew their membership before the war ended). The story of the group (and of those who chose to withdraw from it) would make for a compelling read.
Connie, thanks for the comment. Yes, there is much more for some scholar to do on the Vigilantes.
I was hoping you’d catch the thrown torch?!
I have a few other things in the hopper but just may do that. It’s definitely a story worth telling in greater detail.
The old flag and the old anthem will be popular again some fine day.
Randall, good to hear from you. I hope your year is off to a good start.
It is Keith, and I want to take the opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate your posts! Godspeed!
I’m glad you’re doing well. Thanks for the kind words re the blog. I know it has been a little quiet recently. That’s because I’ve been working on some longer form projects. I intend to pick it up again here in the coming weeks and months.
