Today happens to be Flag Day. Sadly I didn’t see any in my neighborhood when I left the house this morning. I thought I would share these photos I took in Green-Wood Cemetery not long ago at the resting place of Samuel Chester Reid, hero of the War of 1812 and designer of the American flag. Flag Day goes all the way back to the Revolutionary War but it was in 1916–100 years ago right now–that President Woodrow Wilson fixed June 14 as the permanent date for the remembrance.
